  6. Audio Gallery is a Talking Picture Dictionary. The world's first
  7. program of its type on any platform, Version 1.0 released in 1990.
  8.  
  9. Features include:
  10.  
  11. 1. Voice Echo - add reverberation to the voice - and vary the
  12. depth of the echo from a thin echo to an auditorium-sized return.
  13. 2. Auto - Set the program to endlessly repeat the words and
  14. listen to them while you do something else.
  15. 3. Twenty-five to thirty-five different scenes.
  16. 4. Digitized sound - French is Parisian accent; Spanish is
  17. Bolivian accent; Chinese is Mandarin dialect; Portuguese is Brazilian
  18. Portuguese. 
  19. 5. Quizzes - to test your new knowledge
  20. 6. Dictionary - Foreign Language/English and English/Foreign Language 
  21. 7. Russian - Cyrillic characters; Chinese - traditional characters;
  22. Japanese - katakana, hiragana, and Kanji; Korean - Hangul characters.
  23. 8. Versions in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, German, Italian,
  24. Spanish, French, Russian, and English for German/French/Spanish speakers,
  25. English for Japanese/Chinese speakers, English for Korean speakers, and
  26. English for Russian speakers.

  28. New - Make your own Audio Gallery: English for your native language, 
  29. or Your Native Language for English/German (See section in this file
  30. on making your own Audio Gallery).

  33. Installation: Make a new directory on your WorkBench, and copy
  34. the *.lha file you just downloaded to that directory. Uncompress
  35. the archive and, from the WB, click on the "GalleryDemo" icon.

  38. Now you can make your own Audio Gallery to learn English in 
  39. your own language. To see how to do this, start with the demo:
  40.  
  41.  1. Download the AGEngRom.lha demo program.
  42.  
  43.  2. After loading it onto your hard drive, go to
  44. the "alphabets" directory and pull up the "pic01"
  45. file in your text editor. You will see some numbers
  46. and then some English words....
  47.

  53. further down, you will see some French words...

  60.  3. Translate the English words into your language, and
  61. replace the French words with your translations.
  62.  
  63.  4. Save the file and start the program. Select a
  64. topic (there is only selectable topic in the demo)
  65. and after the scene loads, click on "French" in the
  66. "Translation" menu. Also be sure to select "translation"
  67. in the "English Gallery" Menu so the translations are
  68. visible. 
  69.  
  70.  5. Be sure not to add any blank lines, extra LF or CR
  71. characters, or otherwise alter the "pic01" file, or else
  72. the Audio Gallery program won't work! To be safe, make a
  73. copy of the "pic01" file before you start experimenting.
  74.  
  75.  6. To change the WorkBench (GUI) interface for Audio
  76. Gallery so that the menus and buttons will be in your own
  77. language, you will have to change the "Constants" file. 
  78. This is a longer process; send e-mail to the author for 
  79. details. Basically, you must modify all of the "French" 
  80. lines to your language. Or you could modify all of the 
  81. "Spanish", or "German" lines. 
  82.  
  83.    For your language in German, please contact the author. 
  84. The process is only a little longer. By this is meant to
  85. have your language with the GUI in German.
  86.     If you would perform the translation of the full 
  87. ("Full" meaning all of the vocabulary - not just the GUI)
  88. English version to your language (exceptions - French, 
  89. German, Spanish, Italian, English, Chinese, Korean, 
  90. Japanese, Portuguese and Russian - which have already 
  91. been done) you then have the right to distribute or sell
  92. as many copies of the new version translated version in 
  93. the native country of that language, as you wish. For
  94. example, suppose you translated it into Serbian. Then 
  95. you could sell or distribute as many copies of Audio
  96. Gallery in Yugoslavia/Serbia as you wish, but not 
  97. elsewhere.

  99.    There is a similar process to make an Audio Gallery so
  100. that others can learn your native language - however, you
  101. must record the vocabulary, too. Please contact the author
  102. if you really want to do this. Again, you would have all
  103. rights to distribute the new version in your own country.
